Lima|City tour, Larco Museum & Water Circuit
Today we will embark on a captivating city tour, immersing ourselves in the rich history and architectural wonders of Lima's iconic sites like the grandeur of Plaza de Armas and historic Cathedral. During the afternoon we will learn about the vibrant Inca culture at the renowned Larco Museum. The evening will unfold with a mesmerizing display of the Water Circuit followed by a glass of Pisco Sour and local petit-bouchées at a traditional Peruvian tavern.

Day 3
Cusco|Travel to Cusco|City tour & Ruins at Pukare and Saqsaywaman
During the morning, we will embark on an enriching exploration of the magnificent ruins at Kenko, Tambomachay, Puka Pukara, and Saqsaywaman. These sites will offer us a glimpse into the ancient Inca civilization, showcasing their remarkable architectural prowess and cultural heritage. Later in the afternoon, we will immerse ourselves in the timeless beauty of Cusco, marveling at its awe-inspiring cathedrals and intricately crafted Inca walls.

Day 4
Cusco (Sacred Valley)|Visit Pisac's market and Ollantaytambo
Today we will explore the Sacred Valley (9,350 ft) and experience the rich colors of its traditional towns and ruins. Our first stop after a scenic drive will be Pisac's colorful market a great opportunity to practice your bargaining skills! After lunch, we will tour the town of Ollantaytambo and visit the site of the beautiful rose-colored stone ruins where the Incas fought the Spaniards. Return to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Day 5
Inca Trail
Depart early in the morning from the hotel to rendezvous with our quechua porters. From Km. 82 (9,072 ft.), hike along the bank of the Vilcanota River and enjoy views of the magnificent peaks of the Nevado Veronica (19,000 ft.). The overnight camp is on a terrace at Wayllabamba (9,679 ft.). This is a 7.5-mile hike (4-6 hours). Note: All camp gear is carried by porters. You only have to carry a light backpack with personal essentials.

Day 6
Inca Trail
Climb through the magical Polylepis forest to high camp at Pacaymayu (9,843 ft.). Today is one of the most demanding days of the trip as you climb to higher altitudes. With an elevation of 13,795 ft., Warmiwanusca or "Dead Women's Pass," offers views east to the Huayanay peaks and west into the rugged Vilcabamba range. Camp at Pacaymayu after a 10-mile hike (7-8 hours).

Day 7
Inca Trail
Cross the second pass, Runcuracay (13,100 ft.), and follow an Inca highway to the restored townsite of Sayaqmarka. The Inca Trail in this section is made up of white granite, crossing through a thick mountainside forest. You will visit the ruins of Phuyupatamarka (12,460 ft.), then descend to Winayhuayna (8,695 ft.) where the campsite is located. Today's hike is 10 miles (8-10 hours).

Day 8
Machu Picchu
Early in the morning, descend from the mountain forests into the high jungle. Orchids and hummingbirds are common along this spectacular section of the trail, seated high above the river. Arrive at the Gate of the Sun for stunning views of Machu Picchu (7,875 ft.) and a guided tour of the sanctuary. In the mid-afternoon, descend to the town of Aguas Calientes where you can enjoy a relaxing evening.

About Your Adventure

Activity Levels

level 1 - easier

Activities: scenic drives, canoe rides, walks up to 1 hour. Trail conditions: cobblestones, pavement, gravel, or dirt paths. Some days require extended walking.

LEVEL 2 - MODERATE

Most travelers can join level 2 adventures without prior experience. Being generally fit is important. Activities include short hikes up to 3 hours, sea kayaking in calm waters, and rafting on Class I-II rapids.

LEVEL 3 - ACTIVE

Includes 3-6 hours of daily physical activity, like rafting and wilderness camping. Hikes cover 8-10 miles, including steep ascents or descents. Rafting features Class III rapids.

LEVEL 4 - CHALLENGE

Hikes up to 14 miles. Rugged terrain, exposure risk, altitudes over 10,000 ft. Rafting: Class IV-V rapids. Kayaking: 4-5 hrs daily, open water with waves and tides.

LEVEL 5 - extreme

For experienced adventurers. Trekking without vehicle support in rugged terrain above 10,000 feet. Long hikes, up to 12 hours, with significant altitude changes. Rafting in: Class IV-V rapids. Experience and doctor's certificate required.
