After breakfast, we'll transfer you to Puerto Viejo River for the start of the your rafting tour. The Puerto Viejo River skirts important biological reserves that house an amazing diversity of animals, birds and flora. (B, L)
La Selva has been a pioneer site in Education, Research, Conservation and Eco-tourism in Cost Rica since 1953 and one of the first private protected areas in the country. It is located in the Caribbean foothills of Costa Rica and comprises 3,988 acres of old growth and tropical wet forest. Species diversity is spectacular, including more than 1,850 species of plants, 350 species of trees, 448 species of birds, and approximated 500 species of ants. Professional bilingual naturalists lead the walks that give a glimpse of the leading-edge research conducted at La Selva. Each walk is approximately 3 1/2 hours on cement or wood trails. (B)
After breakfast, we'll travel to the Arenal Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The flawless silhouette of Arenal Volcano, its loud rumblings and frequent explosions of lava are a must see experince for visitor to Costa Rica. The Arenal Volcano, active since 1968, it is constantly ejecting gases, water, fumaroles and explosions with pyroclastic material emissions.. A short hike in one of the trails close to the volcano area will give us the chance to enjoy some forest and volcanic activity. Later in the day you can enjoy hot springs baths at Ecotermales hot springs. (B, D)
Afternoon depart to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, one of the most diverse and richest tropical cloud forests in the New World. Home to the resplendent Quetzal and the rare bellbird, Monteverde is not only interesting for the Cloud Forest Reserves inhabitants, but also for its founders, the Quakers. (B)
Today you will get a chance to walk "above the trees". Tree Top Walkways are the best system of suspension bridges that exist in Costa Rica. The bridge system is located along a 1 .7 mile trail, it has 8 suspension bridges going traveling 90% through primary cloud forest. Then we will visit the Butterfly Garden where you can observe more than 50 species of butterflies. We will end the day with a visit to the Hummingbird Garden with more than 14 species of hummingbirds. (B)
Relax and enjoy the morning at your own pace. During the afternoon we will return to San Jose for your last night in Costa Rica. (B)
